Traditions (Wk 12)

During this season, many families bring about time honored traditions.  Please explain two or three traditions or beliefs you and your family share (in complete sentences!) Try to avoid saying that you celebrate a specific holiday. Traditions would be a way that you celebrate something - anything really!

Here are three family traditions of mine!
A family tradition is the You are Special Today Plate. My parents have a plate that is red and says "You are Special Today" around the edge. When there is something special that has happened for one of my sisters or myself, we get to eat off that plate. Each year, we would use it for our birthday dinner, but then also if we won a special award, at graduations, and times when my parents wanted to recognize one of us. I know it's just a plate, but it definitely makes me smile still when they bring it out!

On my Mom's side of the family, we are Irish. Every year, the Leprechauns would come to our house the night before St. Patrick's Day and cause havoc! They would leave small green footprints all over our counters, mess up things on the table and even turn our milk green! This was something fun that my Mom did each year to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The last tradition was the celebration of grades. My parents wanted us to work hard, and the end grade didn't matter as long as we had tried our hardest. To celebrate when report cards came, we would go to Ferdinand's Ice Creamery at WSU. We could get as many scoops as we wanted! It was a fun way to celebrate a job well done and finishing another term at school. They even took me out for ice cream to celebrate during college and graduate school :)

My family and I have a few simple Christmas traditions. One of them is that everyone in the family has to make a meal over Christmas time, whether it's breakfast lunch, dinner or desert we all shared the meals we perfected over the year. Every year we all wear matching pajamas on Christmas Eve and try to spell a word with our bodies(which is extremely embarrassing).
Christmas is my favorite holiday that I get to spend with my family.

One new tradition that we we're celebrating this year is we decorated my dad's old Ford pickup truck with lights and a wreath on the front. The funny thing is that we're just going to leave it there so people can see it. Another tradition we celebrate is making trail mix for friends.

A tradition my family has every year is that we go to our beach house for the holiday break. On Christmas Eve my grandma makes a turkey and we play on the beach all day. another tradition my family has is that we always make cookies together. I always look forward to that.

A tradition that my family has every year is that all of my cousins and other relatives gather in one house and celebrate the holidays. My favorite part of the tradition is giving the gifts to my cousins.

My family has a few fun traditions each year.
Every year during spring break, my family wood drive down to Canada, and we would go camping. Sometimes when it's in the bad weather for camping, we would camp on our balcony, because we never passed any chance for family bonding.
Another traditon of ours is to creat a secret santa program in our neighbour hood. We would choose the person we gift for a hat, and send the present in their mailbox. I have fun wrapping up presents and creating thoughtful gifts to others.

My family celebrates a few traditions during Winter Break. The first is the special breakfast on Christmas Day. For some reason, my family eats a Thai resteraunts every Christmas morning, usually somewhere in Portland. Then we'll have dessert, often at bakeries that sell gelato or cupcakes. Our next tradition includes our visit to California the day after Christmas. We often fly down to San Fransisco, meeting up with my grandma, aunt, uncle, and cousins. We try to find the best resteraunts for each type of food, such as Mexican, Chinese, or Italian. My family opens presents at my grandma's house in Vacaville, then head back to celebrate New Year's Eve in Oregon.

One tradition that my family always does is that at about 10:30 on Christmas Eve before going to sleep, we all open up the smallest gift under the tree with our names on it. Another tradition is that on Christmas we take the biggest present and set it aside, we open u all of the others and then the person that has the biggest gift goes first. We all guess what our large present is and everyone but you knows what it is. If we get in the general area we get to open it and if not we go on to the next person until everyone has guessed the general idea of their largest item.

One tradition that my family has is the Birthday Plate. For your birthday you get to use that plate all day or whenever you want. Another traditions every year all my relatives on my dads side get together at my Uncles house and we have a gift exchange. The gifts can be anything you want. Funny and useless gifts or something you can use or want like a gift card

My family doesn't have too many traditions, but one of them is baking cookies during the holidays. They are delicious, and I love them. Sometimes we frost them, and other times we don't. They're usually eaten up quickly after we make them. Secondly, we always enjoy a nice Christmas dinner. The food we have always switches up so each year is unique than the last. After that dinner, we open our presents.

Many traditions are celebrated throughout my family. Every Halloween my cousins and my family go to Firpoint Farms and get donuts, do the pitch black hay maze and get our pumpkins. every other year we go to sun river to celebrate thanksgiving at the Grand Lodge. Traditions are just another thing that make each family unique

My family has a couple of really fun traditions. One tradition that we have is where on April fools day the rest of my family tries to play tricks on each other and I always discover then, even when my mom dyed the the milk blue in a non-transparent container. Another tradition that my family has is where we go to the pumpkin patch every year and we get to hold the cute little baby chicks that they have there and try to get them to go to sleep in our hands.

SOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUUUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One tradition our family has is going to India every other year. We go to visit our grandparents one summer, and they come to the U.S the next year. Another tradition we have is our making of Halloween costumes. I meet up with one friend every year and we have competitions to see who has the most candy, the best costume, and the craziest house they have been to. Every year, the friend is different, but every other year, we come back to someone we have already competed with.

My family and I have a few traditions, although most of them are not official. An example is that we always have steak and crab on Thanksgiving instead of turkey. My brother in law is constantly trying to change that, so he makes turkey as well. That doesn't stop us from enjoying the crab and steak that we got.
In addition, every Christmas Eve, my mom lets us all open one present up. (It's always PJ's!) Then we stay up for a bit longer, and go to bed.
My last family tradition is, on St. Patrick's day eve, we build traps for the leprechauns. We always bait them with girl scout trefoil cookies because its their favorite. The next day, our traps would be broken, our house would be a mess, there would be chocolate coins everywhere, and there would be presents for us.

My family doesn't really have a bunch of traditions that we do annually. But when we do have fun and simple traditions, we are always cheerful. One tradition we do is that one Labor Day weekend, right before school starts, my family heads to Sun River with a bunch of other friends. Another tradition we do it that on Christmas Eve, my sister, my mom, and i bake cookies and take the cookies to a friends house where a bunch of other families are gathered. At the big gathering, we eat, do activities such as white elephant gift exchange, tell stories, and open gifts. Finally, another tradition we do is that one Christmas Day, in the morning at around 12:30, my sister and i would wake up together and open the smallest present that was under the tree. After opening the smallest gift, leave it under the tree and pretend that we opened them the first thing when we woke up again at 9:00. We would do this so we wouldn't get caught. Even though my mom knows that we do this every year, she goes along with it and we continue doing this every year.

One tradition that we have in my family is on thanksgiving we all go over to my uncles house we eat, then we watch movies. Another tradition we have is on Christmas eve my sisters sleep in my room... It works out for them because they can annoy me while i try to get to sleep. It works out for me because i wake up early and put shaving cream in their mouths. HAHAHAHA

My family has many traditions. One simple tradition is on Christmas Eve, me and my brother get to choose one present to open from under the tree, and the rest will have to wait to open tomarrow. Decorating the interior of our house with fesitive Christmas decorations as a family is also another tradition we share together. One of my favorite family traditions is making "Jimmy Jam" (named after my dad who created the recipe) because our house is filled with its fruity, sugary aroma and the finished product tastes really good! We will sometimes give a jar of the jam as gifts to our friend's families.

we have three traditions, first is we make a Christmas pudding and we light it on fire using brandy. Our second tradition is where we sit around on Christmas morning and open our presents in front of the fire, we have our presents in pillow cases. Third we always have crackers at Christmas dinner. Crackers are these things that when you pull them they burst open with a bang and inside they have a paper crown (which everybody wears), a joke and a small gift. Expensive crackers have good gifts like sewing kits, but cheap ones have little plastic jumping frogs and stuff like that.

We normally just go to Sinriver and spend Christmas out there. Also on the Eve of Christmas we read a story called Santa Mouse and we leave a little piece of cheese for Santa Mouse along with the milk and cookies.

A tradition my dad holds every year is the making of peanut brittle. Every year, my dad undertakes that labor of love and makes a whole lotta peanut brittle for everyone we so much as talked to (not really, but that's what it seemed like). The peanut brittle is really thin, with chunks of peanuts inside the perfectly carmelized sugar. It's REALLY good.

We have a couple traditions. WE always make all the food, and I make a lot of it. We also have my whole family come over and we eat celebrate and open presents. Afterwards we talk, and look into further detail on our gifts. I take much pride in the faces my siblings make when they open my gift to them.

A tradition for is that we go camping about every year we can but some years we can't like if my parents need to work. I really enjoy this tradition because I really like camping and riding my ATV at the beach. This one place that we go to is called Kahneeta. It is a indian reserve but now a resort. They have a heated pool and a great water slide that is pitch black.

A tradition my family does every year is building ginger bread houses. Each family member makes their own house then we compare them at the end. Another tradition is on christmas day my mom always wakes up early and makes monkey bread. So when me and my brother rush downstairs there's always warm steaming monkey bread sitting for us.

My family has a very simple tradition. I wake up, and feel my present. i open them, and i thank "santa", and i play with it for about 1 - 1 and a 1/2 hours with it. i quit, and move on to playing video games. Then, we just carry on, like nothing happened
